How To Practise The Magic Of Light

Now the idea of the magic of light really has to do with a Qabalistic understanding of the word.

Now the word in original Qabalistic language, that is, that which has recorded for us within the Western mysteries the real meanings of occult growth. Both, involves the power of vibratory concentration.

Now what do we mean by vibratory concentration?

Please bear in mind that all through the Bible, here and there, in a little phrase, sometimes times almost lost to the awareness. We hear references to the lost word of power. It really should have been words of power. And the lost word or words of power never were actually lost in a portion of the original evolution on this planet.

Everyone did participate in a certain kind of chant.

Now, the chant isn't the thing that has the power, but the participation in the chant brought about a type of beat or vibration that opened certain centers in the heart, in the brain, in the solar plexus. In other words, those seven centers that have been referred to in Eastern occultism, the seven holy planets, inner holy planets, referred to in Western occultism, which is really the Qabalistic occultism, one comes to realize that the idea of vibration really has to do with an ability to attune our own personal system of vibration to a larger, higher, vaster level of, shall we say, broadcast. Broadcast, because in this universe certainly everything is in a state of broadcast. And so you have that which is being projected out, that is, broadcasted, and that which which is being taken in, that is, the receivers of the broadcasts. And broadcasts have as many different bands as, shall we say, we have complex instruments to register, receive these bands.

Now there are some TV or radio programs you may be listening to. Some of them may make you mad some of them may make you glad unfortunately too few isn't that right some of them may delight you relax you some of them may make you tense and stir aggressive or or other kinds of energies that are disturbed or disgusted.

And so we have many different bands of vibrations we listen to on a so-called physical instrument.

And we react in many different ways to these broadcasts or bands or programs. And in the same way, in fact, our materialized or physical radio TV systems, and this includes radar, incidentally, is really a very weak and a very weak impersonation or copy of a special and very vital aspect of consciousness which has existed at all times and will exist through all times.

And that is basically the realization that consciousness projects through a certain vibratory level, and it projects through all vibratory levels, but I mean the quality of consciousness has to do with the vibratory level that it is trained or has evolved into being able to project and what consciousness receives in vibratory levels is again in terms of what it it has trained itself to tune into, you know, the personalized hi-fi systems or broadband systems or mixtures. And so every single one of us are a type of instrument which does not only receive on a vast band of thinking-feeling levels, but we also broadcast and project from these same levels. In other words, we're not just receiving stations. We're receiving-sending stations.

And the receiving-sending stations has to do with our consciousness, consciousness, because consciousness is all that really receives or sends or has power to form itself in what has been called the substance of light. Now what do we mean by the substance of light? All right, let's go to one of our fratres who has written several books and is known by a few as very important in the understanding of occultism. Eliphas Levy, you've read about him in the lessons by Dr. Case. Eliphas Levy used to write often about what he called the astral light. This was his terminology. But remember, that's where we get mixed up. We hear a term and we say astral light. Well, what is it?

And then we use our imagination to figure what it might or might not be.

The point is, he also, that is, Eliphas Levy in his writings, has also pointed out here and there that the astral light is something other than what we usually call light or that which we usually call astral. And he tried to make it quite clear that the astral light was involved in a fantastic power of magic.

Now the magic of light and practicing the magic of light really is involved with a certain degree of control control over the vibratory levels of consciousness. Now the word, remember, in Qabalah involves the idea of vibratory rate.

Vibratory rate. And certainly we know here and now, even from physical science, that in ultrasonics, for for example, there are vibratory rates so rapid our ears can't hear them. But imagine the power they have.

You know, they use ultrasonics to, as I've mentioned to you before, to reduce a gallstone to sand or grains of sand so it can empty itself from the duct.

Ultrasonics are used to get heat into the very depth of the bone and muscle structure, which nothing else could reach, to a degree where if it was kept on too long it would kill a person. And Eliphas Levy said that this astral light can kill or cure at a distance, and even immediately, actually.

Your ultrasonics have been used with which to take human beings who have certain mental aberrations or problems and to cut the connection with this ultrasonics between the full brain and the forebrain and make a sort of zombie out of your people.

A very painless operation that destroys the connections I don't know how many of you have read about this type of operation but it exists they don't even have to cut into you all they do is put sound sound vibration at a certain portion of your anatomy and if it's kept there a certain length of time it does certain things it can cut a nerve connection in the brain or anywhere else it can smash a stone because a gallstone or a kidney stone is that so different than a stone not in your garden. It's a stone. It's a stone. Different degrees of hardness. You know, you've taken stones, you can take it in your hand and you put it between your two fingers. You notice it's sort of, you can break it up into sand, can't you? You've all seen something that looks like a stone, picked it up either as children or when you grew up. And as you rub it between your fingers or in your hand or squeeze it it breaks apart so there are stones that are less uh adhesive in other words they break apart more readily and there are other stones that are so solid that you really have a problem well now this idea of vibration now we're talking about the magic of light really we are this idea of vibration has to do with the different degrees of cohesion between certain elements of consciousness and where these elements of consciousness are loose it is like being able to break something apart with the your ultrasonics where they are fixed fixed and solid, tight, it takes a great deal more of the concentration of vibration.

And word, in its original essence, really has referred to vibrational impact, vibrational impact that is concentrated. Now, in all of modern science, it is known that if you take a line of vibratory intensities or vibratory rates, you come to first the various levels of vibration that are very slow, and depending on what spectrum you're trying to analyze it in, certain vibrations give you light and the light gets broken up into colors so that for example the infrared which you can't see but it's hot it'll burn you, it can cook you haven't you cooked in infrared?

You know steaks or what have you the infrared little roasters or toasters and what have you all heat is a sort of infrared infrared. So you have your vibration that we call infrared, and the reason it's called infrared is because all you see is the red heat, and yet it has a much more, a deeper impact as heat and its vibration. And then you have, you go to the other side, it goes on into different levels of vibration. It goes on from light because first you actually have light and the light itself is broken up into a spectrum which we call the seven holy colors. That's why you see the colors in the tarot keys and we're going to go through a lot of training in the color and the sound that is in harmony with it that helps to boost it in order to promote our own consciousness consciousness in special ways. But your vibration of sound can be below the range of hearing or above it, and yet it is still a vibration because, as I've pointed out to you, even above hearing it can destroy things, including the brain, and it's used deliberately by some as guided people who think they're curing people by destroying the connection between between the conscious mind and the brain and back of it.

Now what we have not realized is this, that the degree of sensitivity between what we call the cord of vibratory awareness of our forebrain and the rest of our brain has to do with our evolutionary ability or to direct the magic of light.

Evolution really could be stated in many ways that are other than what we're accustomed to thinking evolution as being.

We could think of evolution as being a graduated degree degree of ability to handle larger spectrums of vibrations, which you could call the word, because remember, sound is a vibration, but so is light. And our ability to control vibrations indicates our ability to control our own thinking and feeling, because thought is a vibration. It's registered in an, on an encephalograph or something like that. They put instruments on your brain and what you think and feel, they deliberately give you questions. In fact, the so-called lie detector, did you know, it really registers vibrations and they have studied out certain levels so that if If they see a disturbance where suddenly the vibration goes off into a long and short instead of remaining even, they say, uh-uh, the vibration changed. Here was a disturbance of the usual thinking and feeling. They don't realize what they're discovering there. But the occultist knows. The occultist who is aware of what the magic of light really is.

Because you see there is no stop gap between what we call sound what we call light what we call color what we call thinking what we call feeling what we call hoping yearning loving hating there is no stop gap between any of them we think we see light from a star we uh and that it is different than what we think and feel. We think we feel heat from the sun, that it is different. We think we put on an infrared, which is on what is called a slower vibratory level, which means only that there are less beats per second than you go into the other side of vibration, which is light, it's all light and the other side which we put into or call the ultraviolet range it gets it slows up but the slower or the more rapid I forget maybe I'm making a mistake as to which is faster and slower but whether it be more slow or more rapid has nothing to do with its spirituality.

It has to do with an ability to control that vibratory rate at the time it's occurring. And the ability to control a vibratory rate has to do with our ability to register register the levels of thinking, feeling that have to do with our personal life and thinking, feeling that have to do with the life of others and learning how to tell the difference. Now, in the true magic of light, we have a graduated level of development that involves the degree and intensity of control of what we image in our mind, because that's thinking, and what we feel with what we can call our hearts. And that's the force or the power in the thought.

So that, for example, For example, when you or I think anything, anything at all, as the scientists can show by registering a graph, they may not know what it means, but it is certainly showing a vibratory rate that is either short or long. You've seen these graphs, haven't you, where there are high points going up and down or little ones going up and down along a graph or line that gives you numbers.

Well, this really has to do with what is being emanated in terms of the astral light. Now, let me explain something here. Eliphas Levy, when he spoke about astral light, was not talking about what we see when we look at a star, which is also astral light, by the way, but its end result.

The true astral light is that substance of consciousness, which is everywhere. And you cannot help practicing the magic of light.

Because every time you think, every time you feel, you are forming a vibratory rate, which immediately brings to it, like a radio or a TV, all vibratory rates in harmony with itself. And you receive it when you're quiet, and when you're actively concentrating, meditating, you're sending. And that going out from your own center and taking in from your own center, is not really different from what we call the physical aspects.

It's different in degree only in this way, that water, when it is frozen into ice, you can touch, it's solid, and you can not only touch it, you can become injured in keeping your finger. You keep your finger on ice too long and you're going to damage yourself, aren't you? In the same way, the same water becomes a different vibratory level as it melts into, or from the ice, as it melts into the water, and from the water as it melts into the steam, and from the steam as it melts into an even more widely distributed gas.

It has been one substance, but look at the different things it could do.

Now that's your thinking, and that's your feeling.

And the magic of light has to do with your forming this cosmic astral substance, which Eliphas Levy called the astral light.

It has to do with your forming this substance in the same way that temperature forms a certain substance into ice or water or steam.

And it isn't that you have to learn how to do it. You've learned how to do it.

What you have to learn to do is to become conscious of what you're doing with what you've learned how to do does that make sense to you I hope it does because it's important you do not have to learn how to direct the magic of light as far as being creative is concerned because you're creating all the time creating in this way that your consciousness is a vibratory rate.

And that vibratory rate of your consciousness takes and forms the subtle substance out of which all physical things are born. It forms it in accordance with what it has developed up to this point in the way of the infrared or ultraviolet levels. I'm giving you this as an analogy. So that you can hold your consciousness on a vibratory rate, which forms the astral substance in such a way that it will bring you what your soul, your mind, your heart really wants.

Or you can use the same power, and you've got it. You don't have to develop the power. You've got it now. You've got you've had it a long time you've had it before this incarnation you've had it for many incarnations or you can use the same power that you've got to fashion this astral light into images of nightmares hatred tyranny power disruption corruption, unhappiness of every kind, or you can shape it into joy, love, happiness, glory, and what is the difference? The point is you've got the power. You don't have to gain the power. But the difference between using it on the spiritually so-called infrared scale or the the spiritually so-called ultraviolet scale, really, that is the slower vibratory rate or the more rapid vibratory rate, the difference in your utilizing this magic of light for injuring yourself and others or healing yourself and others, that is in the spiritual sense, has to do with your training yourself to keep your thinking and feeling in a certain area of the word.

And this light is the light of men.

Remember the reading? Now, this training to keep your thinking and feeling is not something that's going to be given to you gratis.

You earn it. You earn it by recognizing, first of all, that you shape an infinite substance that is around you and through you and me and all of us and stretches out into and through infinity. It is the substance of God, which is the true consciousness of the infinite livingness.

You shape it.

Those of us who have developed the capacity to be aware of substance more refined than what we call physical substance don't wonder or think about it. We know. No. It's just like if you had tasted a peach, having traveled to some country, and then you returned to a country where a peach tree was unknown, and everyone said to you, you're crazy, you've never tasted a peach. Would you know or would you not know that you have I've tasted a peach.

And that the people in this country have never seen a peach tree or a peach.

And so they are sure out of their own ignorance.

And being sure out of our own ignorance is what keeps us from recognizing this fantastic power that we've got. And in a way, it is good. In fact, it is very good. You know why? Why? Because if you hand a child the atom bomb, what's going to happen? And if you hand a child matches, what's going to happen?

If you hand a child electrical equipment, what's going to happen?

And in the same way our ignorance is really our protection as long as we need it but we all come to a point where we are not going to be as protected as we were because we have to grow up and so we reach a point where we're handed a few matches and maybe a few atom bombs even to see how we're going to use them. And inevitably we use them all wrong to begin with, incidentally. So relax.

No child learned how to walk without falling, and no one ever learned anything without doing it erroneously to begin with, clumsily.

So of course, to begin with, we don't use them correctly. That's why we're given only one or two matches, and watched. This is what we call karma. We take that up more at other times. But the magic of light develops in us and through us to the degree that we have come to see that everything we think and everything we feel rebounds back upon us and others. In other words, if you are in the presence of other people and you look at them and in your mind you're thinking you so and so except you use words that are not allowed to be printed you know and you think to yourself boy dropping dead would be too good for you first you should walk on raw wounds you know there's some people go in for real details about what should happen to a person before they drop dead. They figure dropping dead is too good for them, you see.

So first they want to make sure they go through all the hells and damnations and so on, and they figure unless they give all the details involved, God might miss the boat and not take care of this for them. You know, they really have this kind of thinking feeling. You'd be surprised how many. So they figure first they have to be thinking, well, you know, they should walk on raw wounds and they should be skinned alive and maybe lose a scalp or two or three and they should have, you know, all the, not the problems of Job or nothing. Boy, I tell you, that's sissy problems with some of the problems that some people can decide should come to these evil so-and-sos. Naturally, we always call the person evil who we want to have the problems. And so we can and have at some time in our evolution with our magic of light we've sort of held these images of all the marvelous things that should happen to that person, you know, which really pleases us. We also, we figure they should sort of crawl on their bellies. I mean tummy is too delicate a word for the kind of hatred that's felt at this time and usually we call it righteous indignation naturally haven't we all I know I have so I'm sure you must have because we've all done the same things and if we don't remember because we don't bear we can't bear yet to see that when I was a child I thought and felt as a child now I'm grown up I don't have to think and feel that way because that's nonsense sense that's infantile and we don't think and feel that way once we see the power of the magic of light because that what we discover in occultism and metaphysics and we need to discover it is that there's nothing we can think and feel in relation to another that is to wish on another that doesn't play to us this is the real magic you know the real magic of light In other words, inasmuch as you've done it unto the least of these, my brethren, you've done it unto me.

And we come to realize that what we think and feel is the real creative principle of the universe.

And the physical manifestation is the end result. And what we think and feel is what needs our training. What we do will follow suit. And what we think and feel therefore needs the exercise in the magic of light and that's why I've always been in favor of elementary metaphysics for those who need it but that's just elementary metaphysics and elementary metaphysics starts telling you you can manifest what you want which is true you can to the degree of your power and understanding and perception but how do you manifest what you want?

Everything we think and everything we feel fashions itself automatically in a subtle substance that Eliphas Levy called the astral light but it is a substance it is a fluidic substance which is both light and fluidic at the same time and even our scientists are quite puzzled about what they can see about light. It acts like particles, and it acts like a fluid in waves, you know, they say. And they get quite confused. Indeed, the occultist doesn't, because the occultist who has attained to a vibratory attunement which can bring in the finer vibratory levels.

By finer, we don't mean that the less fine are unspiritual.

What we mean is that they have a larger range of awareness and this larger range of awareness helps us to understand what's really happened now I will never through all eternity and how no matter how many eternities I will have forget I will never forget the time when after I had been walking and floating in cosmic love for two solid months and I mean this literally literally I needed no sleep because I was being bathed and energized and loved and I was returning it wherever I went and this was a fluidic light that poured in through me and I poured back through it and And wherever my attention went, here's the point, wherever my attention went, this fluidic astral light poured from me and bathed and pervaded and permeated anything and everything I looked at or put my attention on.

And so I was pervaded with cosmic love and I pervaded everything my attention be held or looked at with this cosmic love, an in-breathing, out-breathing of the magic of light in its highest sense. And then when the mighty fell, and you know the mighty always fall during during certain initiatory cycles to discover the full spectrum of what happens.

After two solid months, it was really a little longer, of this continuous and consistent state of cosmic love, which was a substance and a light at the same time, that wasn't stopped at the body because I was it was all through me and I threw it back and forth everywhere when I fell I fell with a bang and I thank the lord of the universe from now forever for having fallen I do I might have gone into a state of spiritual pride or something god knows what because you have to see the height the depth as well as the height to learn how to control as magic or light. Now, I mistakenly thought that I had attained this control of the magic of light inasmuch as I had this continuous and unfailing cosmic love day and night, and night and day, and all times and states in between.

And so imagine my horror and distress when I found myself falling, falling, and then pervaded with hell, absolute and complete hell, blackness and darkness.

And this blackness and this darkness was in and through me exactly to the same degree and extent and intensity that the infinite love I had known for so long and beautifully.

And I wondered, what has happened? What has happened to me? I thought I had gone insane, but my mind was clear and my mind was alert, and it was analytical and it was objective, and it didn't seem to be so. And yet I was pervaded with as much blackness as I had been pervaded with light. The magic of dark had attacked and taken hold of me to exactly the same degree that the magic of light had been pervaded and pervading me, which was love, because I was love and am, in a measure that perhaps you have not yet recognized. And yet that happened to me. I was very young, but I was mature enough to be able to think and analyze and research this extraordinary thing. So I went into my garden of Gethsemane. I didn't go there willingly. I had to.

And I found myself overcome with the impact of the hells, the real hells of consciousness, which were not the magic of light.

And this experience was so drastic and fantastic, I'll give you more details of it in the Thursday night classes, when we come to the portion of the Tarot keys to explain it to you, that I realized that this power to pour love from the center of my being wherever I looked was exactly equaled by the ability and capacity to have darkness poured into me to destroy me unless I learned what it was all about.

Because you see I had cosmic consciousness and cosmic love before I understood the control of the magic of light and I had to have it this way this what is often called psychic attack and it was the darkness rushing in to destroy the light I had to have this to understand what happens to everybody to everybody, to understand the impact of the thinking and feeling of others which they don't recognize as coming from something they're being attuned to, so that I can help raise the vibratory level of those who are brought to me by the higher soul and God who directs the higher soul. I had to know this and suffer it through for you.

And it was well worth it every step of the way. And what I discovered, finally, I cannot give the details here, what I discovered was this, that what we think and what we feel definitely does open us to that level of what we're thinking and feeling. And we manage to store up certain vibratory levels that will suddenly rush in if we haven't become awake enough to direct these levels. And they consist mainly of the ability to become so aware of what we are emanating. This was the whole point. That we will train ourselves not to let hate and unevolved or destructive energies pour from our center, even though we may be aware that it is coming to us from other centers. Because remember if it comes to us from other centers it is merely our initiatory testing strengthening and growing but if we are sending it back from our Center or either originating it or receiving a negative you know hate destructive thought or feeling and redistributing it. What we are doing then is entering into active partnership with a vibratory level that we are trying to evolve beyond. And this is the way we grow, this is the way we evolve. So that the magic of light and practicing the magic of light has to do mainly with with becoming aware of what is coming into us and refusing to be identified with that which is not in harmony with our aspiration.

For example, you walk the streets, you're inevitably going to feel and receive the thinking and feeling of certain people. Well, are you going to receive this thinking and feeling and then enter into it by imaging in this astral substance, which is the substance that shapes our lives, our growth, and our evolution. Are you going to receive this and let yourself become one with it? Or are you going to watch it as you can watch something outside and say, there's this kind of thought, this kind of feeling, and it's not in harmony with my aspirations, so I refuse to feed it. You see, if we take it in and say it's me, we nourish it.

And if we look at it, because we'll all receive it, incidentally, a master of wisdom gets the same impact you and I do, only worse.

But the difference between the master of wisdom and the initiate, and not quite as large a degree than the rest of spiritual aspirants is this, that getting an impact of insecurity, hatred, jealousy, envy, envy, a host of characteristics that go with these qualities. Pride.

Pride is a good one.

Power. It has to do with insecurity, though. The difference, really, between the master of wisdom and the rest of the spiritual aspirants is basically this, that the Master of Wisdom, registering exactly what the rest of humanity does, and even more so, says, this is not mine.

Okay, it's registered itself into my system of awareness.

I dissolve it with the magic of light.

And so there is that discipline of thought and feeling which says, depressed? I refuse to be depressed. That doesn't belong to me.

I'm a child of God.

And so it, with conscious thought, grabs any and every memory of joy, anything that can bring joy, and bathes it just like you take water and pour it on a fire.

The spiritual aspirant, in order to practice the magic of light, trains himself and herself to take from the highest aspiration there is and pour it onto that which is bothering us so that we don't feed the negative imagery.

And it is not as hard as it seems. The difficulty is only in this.

That until we know without any question that every thought and feeling we have is influencing everyone around us, and that their thinking and feeling is making its impact on us, until we know this, not just intellectually, but with our hearts, we are not going to feel desperate enough to keep ourselves concentrated in changing it. Now, the thing that got me desperate was the fact that I had an experience, which I cannot tell this morning, I expect in one of the classes to give it, in which I became aware of the same power going out because I was indignant.

Towards another human being. And the same power that had been giving me and holding me in cosmic love went out with a destructiveness that terrified me. I grabbed it right back into myself. It never got there. But it was only because I'd had long discipline and practice and awareness of this substance. The point is to practice the magic of light involves a study of our own thinking and feeling, not as some uninteresting discipline, but just becoming aware of it and trying to gain control of it in the same way that the child gains control of its needs in eating, in toilet facilities, in walking, in talking. It is becoming aware of the fact that we want to gradually gain our control and that our control has to be in the area of spiritual aspiration and love. It has to do with a recognition or realization of the soul that there's no thought we have going out to others that doesn't rebound on us, not as punishment, but that everything has its equal area, and with an aspirant it's not exactly that equal because as it comes back to us it's stronger and it needs to be.

The practice of the magic of light has to do with our knowing that we are learning how to utilize this fantastic vibratory power of the word that is light, and the light is the vibratory power of the word, and to learn how to walk with it, to laugh with it, to love with it, and to pervade it. The true practice of the magic of light has to do with our consciously training ourselves to pour love and goodwill and benevolence and to open ourselves to receive it. It has to do with forgiving ourselves for our past mistakes and errors of darkness and seeing these as the blessings that have made us concentrate that much more intensely on light.

The practice of the magic of light is the development towards becoming a master of wisdom And all true and high adepts have learned this, that everything we think and feel must be evaluated before it's accepted or projected.

It isn't that we stop thinking and feeling anything that others don't. Please will you remember this?

So stop hitting yourselves on the head when you have negative thinking or feeling and stop having spiritual pride we don't have that problem here thank god stop having spiritual pride though you might see it in others when you think you've managed to hold a positive thought or emotion but enter into this spirit of control of this substance that fashions itself out of your own thinking you are the creative spirit of god fashioning the substance of god in the forms of your thinking and feeling you are that and whatever happens to those near you and dear you as well as to you is part of an interchange of circulation. And you have the power to stop the circulation of psychic, spiritually unevolved viruses. You have the power to do it. And to form antibodies in your spiritual body to transmute and change, you have this power. And so when you walk out today, remember equinox is coming. It's almost here next Sunday. And at this period you can make a switch from one to the other of any one of your major problems more readily than any other time of the year, the two times of equinoxes. Not that you can't any time. I'm just saying it's a little easier to to do it at this time because of the vibratory levels that will harmonize and bring what they call a charging of the thinking and feeling to more intense levels.

It's like giving the extra booster to the rocket to get it into orbit.

This is the time you can utilize these energies more effectively. So remember that at this time and for the next 15 to 18 days, I haven't examined the exact period, but from today for the next 15 to 18 days, you are going to be able to transmute, that is to dissolve certain negative thinking-feeling patterns to a greater degree, and you're going to be able to recharge your consciousness into a more intensive level of aid with the astral light where you'll transmute and hold this magic of light and therefore help the planetary soul, the Lord of Life and the Masters, to bring a new evolution to this planet more readily, and you'll be able to take your share of the responsibility if you work with what we have been talking about this morning a little more intensively than usual.
