Attainment on the Tree of Life - Class 11

This evening we are giving you the last of the particular class series we've been working on together, Qabalistic Attainment on the Tree of Life, a very condensed bird's eye point of view of certain esoteric elements dealing with spiritual psychology, incidentally, in case you didn't know it, that have to do with attaining our higher self. States of consciousness and control.

Now on this, the last night of the series, we are going to try to integrate some of the ideas we've been carrying to try to see a whole picture from the little bits. Remember, you can take a little bit of landscape and show it, and it shows you that bit of landscape, but it doesn't show you a whole picture. You have to get up in an airplane, and then after that a satellite, and after that perhaps a moon, and then farther out and farther out, and I hope we're all way out in the positive sense, but stabilized in mothus, that is the physical aspect of the tree of life, the fruit, the stabilizing influence. It's wonderful to be way out provided we are also centered and able to hold a particular kind of stability. Otherwise we go way off. Some people can become psychotic. We have of course all levels of neuroses and we all share them together, It's part of what makes us love and accept each other, in our work that is.

It gives us special drive.

We have the way-out type of people who are not centered in mahús, that is stabilized, therefore able to express, shall we say, the higher levels of being and consciousness in and through the completed personality. We have too many of such people. These we can call the irresponsible ones, the escapists, the types who like to rationalize their irresponsibilities as being their spiritualities. You know, I'm too spiritual to bother with Earth. You come come across that and yourself and others, we all perhaps have gone through it.

We have those who will indeed try to look upon the actual manifestation of deity as being the devil.

And as a matter of fact, our next class series, which we start next Thursday, and I'm afraid will probably have fireworks in special areas of the particular topic we're going to be utilizing. Incidentally, I want you to realize that in the first one or two or perhaps even three lectures, I'm going to do everything I can to shake loose, that is to drive out those those who don't belong in that class. Not that they'll all be shaken loose or driven out, but I will be doing it in my own particular way as guided.

And those of you who have been regular attendants of this class series, other class series, Sunday morning services, pranayas and so on, it is up to you to help hold the stability of our work because there's no deeper kind of pattern which in Qabalah we call the clippeth and which I'm going to talk about tonight partially in bringing the integration of the tree there's no greater passion no greater emotion no greater destructive kind of energy that you can let loose when you stir up the klippeth the destructive energies of that phase of spiritual beings which we call the creative phase though most people don't know it and that creative phase on the physical plane and in mafu has very special areas of expression one of the primary ones being of course, the sexual, love, marriage, and intersex relationship responses.

So please keep in mind that we'll be doing this, and it's up to you to help keep a certain stability for all of us, because I'm going to be dealing with some very ferocious forces.

Have you ever known anything that rouses more emotion than discussion of sex?

Have you?

Perhaps in yourselves as well as others?

True, but we have to come to understand why.

And when we are true and profound aspirants, we're willing to listen. So we're going to be stirring a lot of emotions and incidentally I'll be taking the brunt of it.

And it's going to be up to you to see that we sort of have a cordon of energy and light, of beauty and idealism and stability right here, helping to center and protect me, so that I don't have to take all of it. And as we shake loose those who are unable to face transmutation as we do that we'll also then be able to start working on the patterns of all of us which can receive transmutation you'll know more about it what I'm wondering about is how we're going to seat all of us I think that those of you who aren't too particular about your backs and so on, I try sitting on the steps. I have an idea that for the first two classes or three, we'll have an overflow of the hall until we shake loose.

The ones who don't belong, you know, the curiosity seekers, the types who just get very excited at anything that says love.

But their interpretations and ours will finally become a very different aspect, as you know. Now then, this has to do with winding up our previous class. But I thought I'd better mention I'm going to be requiring your help more than at any time. I require it all the time, incidentally. But more than ever I shall be requiring it through this series.

And I hope that you are all going to feel that you're helping to participate.

You come to receive. Let's be ready to give a little so we can receive even more and put this protection about me particularly and all of us who are true aspirants.

Now, the Klippis in Qabalah are called the shells of the dead. This is a very interesting term, shells of the dead. And the Klippith are said to reside below Malkuth. They're really that which has later come to be called hell, but the damn fire with the hell I've never understood, because this is not supposed to be the damn fire, except in the way that people can become plenty fiery about their clip-ins and other people's clip-ins. The shells of the dead refer to what? They refer to the old thought patterns, old emotional patterns of ourselves, our previous incarnations, in one area of our expression, and to the old thought patterns, the old emotional patterns, that have to do with the race mind, the race evolution, and we belong, incidentally, to both. If you didn't belong to the race mind, by race mind we mean humanity, you wouldn't have your own individualized line of Klippith.

Actually, in the individualized smashing of some of the Qlipith patterns, we are usually dealing more often with yesed, the foundation, that violet circle on the Tree of Life, that emanation which is the foundation for what is expressed onto the physical plane. But when we're dealing with the, shall we say, physiological evolution of life itself, within which we have participated, and we remember are the forward drive, because we are the most highly evolved form of physiological life on this planet. At least, I hope. Don't you? We really are. But where we are dealing then with mass mind levels that have to do with the physiological aspects, that is the genetic aspects therefore, of our beings, we are dealing with that which is an overflow from the physical plane in the outflow from deity right on down through the tree as I've I've tried to show it to you.

And remember always from each outflow, beginning with the one, the indivisible, right on through the whole series of ten, we always have that which has been an overabundance, an overflow. We always have that which forces into a compressed state, just like you put your finger on a hose and you get a stronger power with the water.

I think that's the way it goes. It's because you're compressing it that you get more power. So you have a continuously greater compression taking place, which finally brings about the compression, which we call the expression of the total being in and through the physical vehicle.

And our genetic heritage, This incidentally is what's meant kabbalistically in the Bible when it says, In the sins of the father shall be visited upon the children unto the third and fourth generations. But look, third and fourth, I tell you, they're optimists.

It's really, it wasn't meant to indicate third and fourth generations in the sense of your great, great, great grandchildren. Children. This is really one of those cabalistic phrases. It has to do with the fact that all of humanity is one being, pressing forward in evolution. Within this one being, we have the individualized expressions of the one being. Every individualized expression adored, adored, just like if you had many children, I should hope that you'd love them all.

And in the same way, the individualized expressions are unique aspects of that one glory, that one being. Now in this compression, as it goes from level to level in order to manifest itself, You always have this overflow, and this overflow really in every emanation has a type of Klippis. But we have no concern with this overflow or this type of Klippis on any area until we come to Yesud, the foundation, the number nine.

Because always the the overflow really helps to bring about the balancing in the central consciousness that balances those two sides of the tree and you get your balances in the upper levels of the tree just about automatically but when you come to finally incarnate into such a an extraordinary extraordinarily complex something as a physical vehicle of a human being. You are dealing with the most fantastically compressed forces by then. And the reason you're dealing with them is because you yourself have made them. By forces, I mean the forces that give you the ability and the capacity to have complex consciousness.

The ability to take your consciousness and turn it in upon itself to develop self-consciousness. And actually, your self-consciousness develops develop. Because of the overflow that is the clippist, it forces a sort of backwards circle so that you try to see yourself backwards. You know, self-consciousness actually has a certain affinity to that idea. We try to use analogies in order to help you to get an experience. The analogy is always just approximate. Please bear this in mind. But in the shells of the dead, in the Clippist area, then, of Qabalistic understanding, what you want to realize is this, that it is because of the patterns of yesterday, and yesterday means last incarnation, two incarnations ago, a hundred incarnations ago, a thousand incarnations ago, it is because of these past patterns and the automatic readjustment the deity makes to keep itself centered and balanced. This automatic adjustment is what karma really is, you know. Whatever pattern of thinking and feeling, therefore being and doing, because remember, thinking and feeling precedes the doing. And whatever we finally do is what we are always and what we are is our thinking feeling area of life and for every problem that we have is the opportunity to use the shells of the dead of ourselves and of our total humanity to use these shells in order to strengthen our spiritual muscles to become something more than we were yesterday if we don't do it now we'll have to do it tomorrow because it keeps returning to us you see I tell you darlings we're trapped there's no way to go except forward into evolution once you achieve a certain level of self-consciousness and a certain aspiration that personality has already then become something much too complex and precious and that soul has taken hold much too firmly so that our clippets our problems our unhappinesses our frustrations these are really our privileges these are the things that we use like people use We use dumbbells to make muscles with, you know?

You know, up and down, up and down. These are what we use to strengthen our individuality so they can withstand any and every kind of force. And so, little by little, we overcome Satan, the Clippists, the hell. The hell that we have made and which we had to make, remember. Member, which we had to make, because how can you evolve unless you have or develop an individuality with spiritual muscles, that is, the strength of selfhood within the one self, unless you have something to work at, to exercise with. And so the exercise of our mental-emotional nature takes place through the overflow, or what is called the clipper. All our sorrows all our miseries these are the patterns of thinking feeling of our past both singly and as a unit of wholeness and we have karmas within karmas, you know you have a family karma, isn't that awful you have a national karma an international karma you have various kinds of race karmas that intermingle to become a total karma of all humanity we're all one and we have all these wonderful things to overcome that is these wonderful exercise machines that we ourselves have made that we utilize with which to become an expanded consciousness with the ability to hold our individualized selfhood within the expansion Now, you know, this is a very important statement I've just made.

I wonder if you realize how important it is.

Now there are those who have not attained the full individuality who might be able to experience the total, shall we say, beauty, glory, unity, ecstasy of oneness, who, because they have not yet developed a truly strong soul isn't that a good way to put it strength, arrow key number 8 one of the middle cross tap on the tree of life you know that really stabilizes everything if you will realize in one way that it is the work of stabilization it is this strength of soul that has to be developed in order to maintain and retain the individuality, instead of, shall we say, melting like a dewdrop into a shiny sea, as our Hindu brethren tell us.

There are some who can experience the shiny sea as a dewdrop, but they're not going to melt into it. They're going to participate in all ways with every aspect of the shiny sea. But they will continue to be the dewdrops which have special properties, specialized properties, individualized, unique.

And when I say unique, remember as I've told you so often, it is the difference between us when we look at a sky Now, every one of us, I hope, loves to look at God's creation, the sky, the trees, the flower, the bird, the creature.

Ourselves, or are you going to exclude yourself from God's creation?

Get rid of that clip-in.

That's one we can't afford anymore. It was all right once. We've outgrown. So that's what we mean by the shell of the dead we have to outgrow patterns of yesterday continuously and the shells of the dead then has to do a lot with what jesus had in mind really rather than the way people have interpreted it sometimes uh let the dead bury the dead that which served us yesterday is something we should outgrow today we may have needed some fixated or prejudiced point of view yesterday in order to maintain our individuality because we were not strong enough to look at a larger picture you know like too much light can blind the eye and then you lose your sight the ability to see all the little detailed things.

Even prejudices of yesterday serve the good. All things serve the good. Nevertheless, it's the clipper. That's the real devil. That's our problem.

But I'm hoping, I'm helping you to see that the very thing that is our problem is our blessing.

It is by working our ingenuity. It is by watching our emotional responses it is by understanding mentally what is occurring that we start to change our points of view and if you think you've achieved the final perfect point of view let me tell you you're in the clutches of the equipment unconsciously or a particular one of the equipment because the embracing enlargement of consciousness goes on and what is correct today is not necessarily correct tomorrow I have often tried to use the analogies of the differences in the ethical and moral codes of different societies and it is up to them to follow the ethical codes of their society incidentally because this gives them what? Although it may be an erroneous code from our point of view.

From their point of view, this is what they share in common and this is how they exercise their muscles by using discipline, which keeps strengthening that center of consciousness, the individuality. And the stronger our soul, our individuality becomes, the more relaxed and free it becomes.

The more able to enter into the ecstasy of the all without losing its glorious and adorable personal point of response and point of view. Now if you and I or each and every one of us were watching the sunset together we would not be experiencing the same thing.

So we would all, if we love beauty, would be experiencing a type of exaltation and wonder, that is a response to beauty, but each in a different way.

Now it is our individuality, it is the uniqueness of the individuality that gives this different manner of response. How often have you been insulted because other people don't react as you do you don't have to tell me tell yourself how often have you decided somebody is a moron or uh someone's asking you being kind or something much stronger if that person doesn't see what is right and wrong in a particular situation I clip it because there are so many points of view in one way they all gather themselves together of course those who truly aspire as certainly we do or we wouldn't be here together those who are truly reaching for the higher self in union with the one being the one life are open and willing to look into their own hearts and souls and give the little chuckle that we all gave. In other words, we stop taking our clippeth quite so seriously.

Alan Watts is quite delightful in his way of putting it in a recent book that I've been sharing with our beloved Reverend Harry P. Case. But this is the essence of it. That's why Tarot Key No. 15 which is one of the paths that leads to Christ consciousness. There are several, and you have to take them all, by the way.

Isn't that obsessive? What's the matter? Don't you like adventure?

Aren't you that certain of your individuality? You can afford adventure. Your soul should be strong enough by now.

It can afford it.

And it is the adventure of expansion of life, of consciousness.

That and the devil tarot key number 15 is one of the paths and remember it's one of the meanings of the three blue letters is mercy mercy and not until we can chuckle at the personality levels below that true ego she didn't know not until we can chuckle not that we chuckle all the time we we naturally take it seriously. Let me tell you, if you heard the kind of, I almost use an odd word, if you heard the H-E-L-L that I raise sometimes, when I am taking some problem a little too seriously, it would make you wonder whether I'm fit to be a pro-locator general.

And yet, I think that Jesus knows that it's quite all right to do that too. And he got indignant, didn't he?

He got indignant enough and I think we all need to understand and realize that if we can chuckle at the nonsense that we have picked up through these incarnations and millennia both personally and as a group we are going to be then in a better position to objectify our consciousness in such a way that is a portion of it, so that we can take these clippings, these patterns that pull and drag and make us miserable and and make us hate, give us intolerance, drive us into fear, all of the very unproductive levels, though they're productive eventually, let's say temporarily productive levels, we would see then that we could take these various attitudes, if we could chuckle more at our patterns as we watch the personality cut up in various ways it does and we would be able to dissolve the energies in fact this is what we do here all the time you know in TED Talks and all phases of our work so let's indeed even home give you your day by day disciplines and exercise as one thing.

But the idea is to dissolve the shells of the dead, the energy tied up in these shells, and then to utilize it for another thrust into the expansion of consciousness, which at the same time contracts into that much greater strength for the soul, that much more uniqueness of individuality, therefore that much more preciousness of being since after all I mean let's brag a little bit God couldn't remotely see a sky and a bird like I see it you know like you see it now God couldn't remotely see it through anything or anybody else in that way that's pretty special That's very special. In fact, that's so special that I think that we can afford to be a little cocky, but in a different and unique way. In other words, we can afford to say, I have reached the state of evolution where I am as important to God as God is to me. That That doesn't mean we're finished, but boy, that's when we can really start going.

Once you have faith in your own individuality, you can afford to let go your personality prejudices.

Once you have faith in your own individuality, you can afford to let the other person be right, even when you know they're wrong. Wrong. Once you have faith in your own individuality, you're not going to have to fight for your point of view. Not unless you know you're going to win. That is, by win I mean, suffer as a serpent, woo and entice another individual into a more constructive response to life.

What have we gained if we've won an argument intellectually speaking inflated a little bit of ego the strong soul doesn't have to why do we need to inflate our ego when we know that God needs our ego just as much as we need God that in fact we're each a portion of the other expressing, especially We can then afford to be kind, can't we? We can then afford to be loving. We can afford to chuckle at the childishness of others, including the childishness of ourselves.

Once we have faith in our own individuality, in the strength of our soul to withstand the impact of anything, and we'll get them because we have to have tests along the way.

See did you object to the test in school probably I did too you still have to have them and what are the tests they're just self-imposed and as we grow outward in expansion and contract inwards in strength at the same time of soul we have to test ourselves to find out how much we can withstand with our spiritual muscles at this time and from the point of view of our true selfhood our eternal unique individualized selfhood these tests aren't at all something to screech and rage about but if you enjoy screeching and raging let's so do this is one of the clips but you need to work up enough, you need to get enough of your energy into it, so it gets back at you strongly enough and often enough, as you pointed out, these patterns, shells of the dead, until finally you can see it, or you're desperate enough to see that it's time to smash that pattern, release that energy tied up in that nonsense, and start using it for the next part of the growth process.

In any case, isn't it wonderful to know you can't be wrong?

Because, see, I'm pointing out to you, you can't be wrong.

Even when you're wrong, you're right, and even when you're right, you're wrong.

What a dilemma!

Because as I said, when you're right on one level, the next level of awareness may, as I pointed out, will show a different point of view.

And this is the true spirit of adventure Taroki over the pool when you have strength of soul when you have faith in your own individuality you're willing to go down into the valley of Taroki over the pool because you know you're going to get to the next higher top and though you'll get lost as we always do in certain situations there's a certain portion of our being that always knows that no matter how bad things get they can even get worse and when they get worse enough when they get worse enough when they reach the limit something always happens doesn't it one way or another exciting you say you'd like to know if you only knew what was going to happen what nonsense you only knew you knew what was going to happen you wouldn't stay with the play you'd walk out in the middle of the production So you see, this is what we're trying to do, show you that we have to laugh and chuckle at our clippets.

We have a way of trying to sentimentalize certain things, of clinging to old principles, which may have been principles for one portion of our lives, but become chains and prejudices on a higher level, or a next level. When we start seeing these patterns and become willing to chuckle with them, I say that only Only through chuckle can you remotely, really, and truly, and completely transmute.

You know, that's one of the reasons that Alan Watts points this out, and of course Qabalah really goes along with this. The play of life. You know, in Qabalah we've called it the game of life. The tarot, the fool, and then, you know, the magician. You know, after all, he's kind of manipulating a lot of things, isn't he? That magician on his table, on his magic table. The same idea is involved really this game of life has a purpose certainly and it has a very profound purpose but when we become aware of our true selfhood when we're willing to at least acknowledge even go by faith although you know in a way I hate that word isn't that a terrible thing to say in the temple of God. It's because it's so misunderstood by most people. You know, where somebody tells you something, they say, well, never mind, don't bother with that, just have faith. Now, I don't go for that. This is what most people think of as faith, and that kind of faith is an arrestment. It's just an attempt to keep people in clippeth, and they're very grouped through their clippeth, their shells the dead. In Qabalah we want enlightened faith. When I say go by faith, I mean go by enlightened faith. Test every step of the way, but start watching for and reaching for that central core of you that is your true I, and realize that it, that, can withstand anything and everything, things cannot get lost cannot be destroyed that it is growing more and more strength of being in its particularly unique individuality through this group of personalities and this personality that we carry today is just one latest expression at least it seems latest from this present point of of you although you know our consciousness could suddenly switch itself uh to several thousands years ago and it would be pleasant to us then I mean any of us who've experienced past incarnations know that whatever we're experiencing it's now to us while we're experiencing it those of us who uh sometimes experience the future that future is now to that consciousness because remember your true and eternal I is from forever to forever and our immersion in what we feel is time time and space is really more like that detailed microscopic examination of the details of a total selfhood so that if we could only be willing to chuckle at the serious way we react to certain things attitudes ideas emotions if we we would be willing to see that the regular transmutation of a personality is really far more of a rush towards the awareness of unity.

But we were willing to drop our chains, if we were only willing to drop our nonsense. But you see, we take our nonsense a little too seriously, at least most of the time, don't we? That's being immersed in the play, you know.

Like when we – haven't you wept at a sad movie? I sure have. You should have seen Dr. Casey. He was worse than I've ever been.

And it's all right to weep as long as you know you're weeping at a place that is, as long as you know that your central core or central I is experiencing a certain something because of the return the karmic return of the old thinking-feeling pattern which is really the shell of the dead until we're willing to release the energy into newer and broader vistas of thinking, feeling, being, growing. Now the whole work of this Tree of Life is aimed at doing just this. The whole work of the Tarot is aimed at doing just this. Every phase of our work, our Sunday morning chant, the Qabalistic chant, is aimed at doing just this in a very specialized, concentrated way, using that force.

Of every color of the spectrum, you know, that's what we work with, which means that we're using every sign of the zodiac, we're using every planetary force when we are joining together in that Qabalistic chant, and that gives extra impetus. Impetus it gives extra capacity to us it gives us that extra surge of energy which we usually need to help us smash another little shell of the dead or another little clip-up or clip-it and every time we smash one really we gain more psychic mental emotional spiritual energy because we've been willing to let the dead bury the dead we've taken this energy and life force on into our growth our expansion and therefore our strengthening also now the prejudices that we hold which were yesterday's principles must go what are they? Each of us has a different field we each have different ones don't we?

So we give them the same names when we say this is a principle and then we utter a prejudice I mean each of us could say this is the principle of life and we can make diametrically opposite statements in their meaning can't we you can see this in election time you know to a Republican only God is only with the Republican way of thinking and to a Democrat God is only with the Democratic way of thinking incidentally to a communist God is only with the communist way of thinking that they don't believe even God.

But they have the same feeling, that right. So they'll call it right.

It's their idea of what's right.

The point is, you know, we've recently gone through, not so long ago, time flies, doesn't it, through an election, and locally we're entering into another, and we're going to hear some of the most beautiful, of lame speeches, all aimed at making us hate the other fellow and showing that I am an angel. Well, actually, I am.

Honest.

I have a picture to prove it.

Real wings, not actual feathers, alas. They may...

Oh, yes.

Some called it a double pie plate and I thought this was most unkind.

It was tied very charmingly around my chin.

Now then, a true aspirant is not out to have the teacher or anyone else hand them liberation on a silver platter, or if you wish, a gold platter.

A true aspirant knows that no one can do your growings for you.

A true aspirant is out to work transmuting the personality and learning how to make it fun.

And it should be fun. It's only hell as long as we have the clippeth that we want to hang on to to keep it hell. And we don't have to. But I mean, if we like having a villain within ourselves for a longer portion of the play, you know, that's the people who love the suspense and murder stories.

So not till the last page can you get rid of it. Do you have anything except the villain winning out?

Some of us maybe prefer it that way, then we'll keep ourselves miserable a little longer. But I say that for the sake of each other, we've got to start giving each other, by first learning to give ourselves, and then how easily we can give it to each other. The acceptance, the chuckle, to keep our aspirations, but not to tie it up with false spiritual pride you know but pretty much like the idea I have mentioned to you previously haven't you met people or maybe you've been one of the ones who've been proud of their humility yes this is the thing we have a tendency to do very unconsciously because we have such a tendency to display whatever it is we think should be displayed at the moment you know a narcissistic personality which is usually a very young soul or they wouldn't be narcissistic a narcissistic personality has to gain the center of the stage at whatever cost and some and although there are many types of mental illnesses that are utilized there are also some who aren't exactly mental mentally ill to that degree but there's still no statistic personalities they still haven't evolved beyond that need to take the center of the stage. Now an abnormally sick, by sick I don't mean where they can be put in the mental institution. Let's say a very young-souled narcissistic personality is apt to go off into some of the most bizarre behavior in order to make sure that they'll get the center of the stage.

They may get drunk and you know when you get drunk you don't have to be inhibited and blame it on the alcohol so you can really give a performance I was just told today of someone who has now been using alcohol for two years as an excuse for giving up the control that happened to be part of being truly human and under the influence of alcohol had herself the most delightful time yes herself she got She went to a cocktail bar and got hold of a gun, and she shot it up beautifully. I tell you, she sure got the center of the stage.

And she was utilizing power. Boy, it was a real marvelous power.

She had everyone scared stiff, rightfully.

And then finally they got the gun away from her, and she was carted off to jail. Then she had the most glorious time being terrified that she'd be locked up.

You know she was still the heroine of her melodrama right now how often do we become heroes and heroines of our melodramas that we just make well these melodramas we make we make with our clippist aspects we can be the center of the stage in a much more pleasant manner you don't need bizarre melodramatic and destructive behavior behavior, the more love we learn to radiate, the more we can chuckle at ourselves, the more will our emanations be something so delightful that people could become a problem. Nice problem.

What's nice is when people run, like you know, we'll have to get away from our emanations.

And it's nice to have to face that kind of problem too. The point is the whole work of the Tree of Life and the Tarot and Color and Sound and Alchemy and all these various areas of it is aimed at all times at helping you to get rid of the patterns that are keeping you miserable, frustrated, and to help release these unhappy patterns from the mass mind so that humanity can surge forward.

Just one person overcoming one or two little clippists can give quite a terrific push, to all of humanity besides ourselves. There isn't anything we accomplish for ourselves that doesn't also immediately lift a load from the weeping spirit of Earth, the mass mind aspect of our being, which is part of us. You couldn't have a body unless nature were working every aspect of it could be.
